HOW DARE THEY. I scheduled a technician to come to my home to fix a squeaky garage door. Unfortunately, I double-booked myself at work and asked my wife to be home for the appointment. Apparently I still live in a world where some technicians think they can scam women. I expected the $79 service charge to cover an inspection, lubrication, and a basic tune-up. Nope. Instead, the technician quoted $1,749.61 to replace springs, rollers, and other parts. He also told my wife that if she approved the work immediately, she would get a “lifetime” warranty. When my wife called me, I told her the door had originally been installed by Precision and should already be under their “lifetime” warranty. The technician then said only the springs—which weren’t broken and he admitted probably didn’t even need replacing—might be covered. The rest of the work would still be about $1,200. And to even check the warranty, we would need to produce a receipt from 10 years ago, because despite having my name in their system from the original install, they apparently have no record of the service. So in the end, I paid $86.05 ($79.95 + tax) for a technician to come to my house and try to sell my wife nearly $1,800 in unnecessary work. I was perfectly willing to pay for a legitimate tune-up and honest service. Instead, I got a high-pressure upsell and a warranty that suddenly became very difficult to honor. At this point, I’ll handle the door myself—I can buy silicone spray—or I’ll find a technician who is actually honest. Bottom line: If you’re expecting honest diagnostics and a simple tune-up, that’s not what we experienced.

Precision was able to address some unique needs with my garage doors -- solid wood and with aged or non-working parts openers systems (motor, sensors, springs and tracks. I was very impressed with the James, my technician, who helped me verify my initial issues and assessed how to fix other issues on an existing newer system and make both doors operate better and more efficiently and quieter. I purchased new motor, springs with conversions on one with ancillary sensors and repairs to rollers on the other. I chose Precision initially because they still use Lift Master -- my preferred motor.
